Summary
Add a SummaryCover intentionally misleads. This is about gay love, and Matthew Goode's face should have been on the cover art, rather than Julianne Moore's.
A story that centers on an English professor who, one year after the sudden death of his partner, is unable to cope with his typical days in 1960's Los Angeles.
Based on the same name novel by Christopher Isherwood , this film is a romantic story of love interrupted. The isolation that all of us feel , especially after the loss of a loved one, leads the way to recognizing the importance of the " little things " in life.

Add a CommentI watched the trailer before I watched this movie and there was nothing to indicate it was about a homosexual man. Why don’t the make clear the movie is about homosexuality, since it is? I didn’t like it.
This movie took me back to the loss i suffered when I lost someone I loved. I thougt it was touching and honest. Im glad I saw it.
Boring and a complete waste of time. I quit after a half hour of the same old poor homosexual nonsense.
This is a wonderful movie; complicated, detailed, infinitely patient. Colin Firth is a deeply interesting actor to watch. The range of emotional experience he goes through without a lot of grandstanding, or even words most of the time, is beautiful and terrible to behold. And the end was most surprising and oddly satisfying. Melanie
A beautiful film.
As someone else pointed out, the movie is not described for what it is. The story is basically that of a homosexual man of high means moping over the death of his male lover. Depressing and a waste of time.
It was too artsy for me, but after forwarding through the boring water scenes, I was able to watch it in about an hour. It is a nice romance, and there is even some messages for people to think about.
Boring, meandering film about a gay professor's loss and mourning of his partner (while still managing to lust after the bodies of male tennis players). Chock full of gay stereotypes: the beautiful, wealthy, older woman who lusts only for the gay prof (as do other straight women he meets), the young, beautiful male student who offers his body to the prof (unasked), the beautiful James Dean lookalike who appears (and offers his body to the prof unasked), etc. And of course, the gay prof (who in reality would earn a low salary) lives in a designer home and drives an expensive car. The prof's partner was good-looking, always pleasant, always well dressed, and they never fought (unlike the straight couple who lives next door). No doubt hetero eyes will widen when listening to the director's commentary in the DVD bonus section (let's just say his heterophobia shows!)
What a great film. This is a love story. A middle age man looses the meaning of life after his longtime partner dies. He is going to end his life and this is all about that last day. He looks at everything for the last time. The main idea of the story is to appreciate every moment of life and really live it like it's the last day... Colin Firth is incredible, other actors are great, music is beautiful. Don't miss it.
Exquisite film..Wonderful soundtrack.Superb acting! Don't miss this one.
