A memoir by Benjamin Mee, tells the true account of how the author and his family used their life savings to buy a dilapidated zoo, replete with 200 exotic animals facing destruction, in the English countryside. Mee, along with his children, had to balance caring for his wife, who was dying of brain cancer, with dealing with escaped tigers, raising endangered animals, working with an eclectic skeleton crew and readying the zoo for a reopening.

Cheesy feel-good fare, solid choice for a rainy Sunday afternoon but hardly a life-altering experience. The extended interviews with the real Benjamin Mee and family in the bonus material may well have been the most interresting part.

I started watching this with my kids, but after the first few minutes decided to watch it by myself first so I would know where to hit fast forward. Adult themes, some foul language, some sexual innuendo, and dark and graphic art work, definitely make this a PG-13 in my house.

A great family movie that has a lot of meanings. One can learn so much about animals, families and what is important in life.

I suggest that you borrow this movie.
